Super Mario Bros. Theme by Koji Kondo
Probably everybody knows this tune. It is the "Ground Theme" from Super Mario Bros., the Nintendo game released in 1985, and it first plays in World 1-1. It was composed by Koji Kondo, and he found it the most difficult track of the game to compose, because the music had to match Mario running and jumping. In 2023 it became the first video game music added to the US National Recording Registry. More details are on Wikipedia.
I liked to play Super Mario a lot when I was about 13-15 years old, mostly because I didn't have any other video games at that moment. And I actually beat its final World 8, which now, in comparison with modern video games, seems like an awesome achievement.
The theme is in C major, with a swing rhythm and a lot of syncopation. There is also a nice video where Shigeru Miyamoto, the creator of Mario, plays it on guitar with The Roots on The Tonight Show.
Tab by A. Heiskanen, with melody, bass and drums tracks. This arrangement is perfect to play solo on electric guitar and it sounds cool, because the melody is almost all on the 12th fret and higher. On my acoustic guitar I usually play it all rebased, so it starts on the 7th fret instead of the 12th. The fretboard on acoustic is much shorter, so it is much easier to access those frets.
